Biography

Fal Engineering opened its doors for business in December 2014, offering an Engineering, Design and Manufacturing service based in Falmouth, Cornwall. The company name was chosen as a nod to the beautiful area in which we are situated, the company logo reflecting the Fal river and harbour which plays an important role in the Falmouth economy.

After many years in engineering and manufacture, Andrew Smallman decided the time was right to utilise his industry knowledge and "go it alone". Armed with a small selection of machinery (details below) we can create components to your specification or help you with the design process before hand. We can machine all metals, ferrous or non-ferrous, plastics, even wood, to whatever shape or size you require (within the machine's capacity, see below).

Services

Engineering.

"The design and manufacture of complex products." At Fal Engineering we have the capacity to engineer your components from initial conception through to the final manufactured part or parts. Whether you need a precision engineered part created to strict tolerances or simply an aesthetically pleasing decorative item (for your yacht?) we can bring your component to life. Reverse Engineering is also a key skill and we have all of the required measuring equipment with which to create your new parts from the old parts.

Design.

"To make drawings, preliminary sketches, or plans." Using the latest CAD software we are able to design your components in 3D before moving on to the manufacturing process. Your components can be designed from a simple description or pencil sketch, no matter what your design requirements we have the facility to make it real, and should you not require us to manufacture your parts we can provide you with engineering drawings and CAD files for you to use at your discretion.

Manufacture.

"To make or produce by hand or machinery, especially on a large scale." Please see below for a list of our machine capacity. Using CNC machinery and over 20 years of experience in using them we can manufacture almost anything you might need from almost any material, from simple milled or turned parts to complex 3D shapes we have the facility and the skills. Capacity

CNC Milling Machine.

450mm X 300mm maximum traverse range. 800mm X 300mm maximum clamping area. Maximum component size not relevant given that the machine is not enclosed. If I can clamp it I can machine it.

CNC Lathe.

250mm swing over cross slide, 450mm swing over bed, 1200mm between centres.

Additional Resources.

I also have a bandsaw (600mm max jaw width) and a pedestal drill (max component height 400mm), as well as a large inventory of machine tools and precision measuring equipment.
